Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup

Introduction

An easy and practically fat free soup that cooks all day while you're at work! An easy and practically fat free soup that cooks all day while you're at work!
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    1 1-lb. bag dried split peas, rinsed
    1 onion, diced*
    1/2 cup carrots, diced*
    1/2 cup celery, diced*
    1 cup diced ham
    2 tsp garlic powder
    2 tsp onion powder
    1 tsp pepper
    1 bay leaf
    3 15 oz cans low fat, reduced sodium chicken broth

    *You can also substitute 1 1/2 cups of Kroger's frozen Recipe Starters Mirepoix Blend of celery, onions, and carrots for the 3 diced veggies.

Directions

Place ingredients in order given in layers in 4.5-quart slow cooker -- DO NOT STIR. Pour stock over the top. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours. Remove bay leaf. Run a wire whisk through the soup to stir until it reaches your preferred consistency. Makes 8 1-cup servings and is nearly fat free!
