1/2 cup pearled barley (uncooked)
1 cup fresh or frozen carrot 'coins'
1 cup cut green beans
1/2 cup sliced celery
3 cups beef broth
3 cups water
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 bay leaf
Salt to taste
