Spicy Split Pea Soup

Introduction

This recipe is from "The McDougal Health Supporting Cookbook but I have increased the amount of split peas used and I use Braggs not soy sauce. This recipe is from "The McDougal Health Supporting Cookbook but I have increased the amount of split peas used and I use Braggs not soy sauce.
Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

    2 cups green or yellow split peas
    11 cups water
    2 medium carrots, diced
    2 stalks celery, diced
    1 large onion chopped
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1 tsp paprika
    1/4 tsp cayenne chilli
    2 tbsp Braggs 0r low sodium soy sauce

Directions

Makes 10-12 servings

Bring peas and water to a boil in a large soup pot.
(I skim off the foam)
Reduce heat to medium low and add remaining ingredients.
Cover and cook on low for 2 hours (at least).
Stir occasionally.
When peas are cooked use a stick blender to puree soup.
Some use a whisk.
