These were great! I added the spices(heaping measuring spoons)to the rice and lentils as they were simmering. I carefully pulverized the quick cooking oatmeal with a hand held blender and added it to the hot lentils and rice when they were done and mixed well. Cool add fine minced onions & gr.carrot - 2/10/10

Sorry, but this was not a winner at our house.
My boys found it to be tasteless, and one did not even want to try it. I found it to be interesting, but not very tasty.
I used a burger press to make the burgers, but still found they did not stay together well. Probably will not make these again. - 4/16/10

As others have noted, the calories on these is completely inaccurate. With that said, I'm fairly convinced these are the perfect food. Endlessly modifiable, there is always a batch in my freezer. I bake them to keep them together better but the key is in smashing up the rice so it binds well. - 1/28/12

I made these for the first time today.Cooked the lentils&rice for only 30 minutes. When I started mixing the ingredients (I used oatbran instead of oatmeal) I was initially worried that they would not stick but after I used the potato masher and then my hands to form the patties was fine.8 good size - 5/3/10

I enjoyed these, but I'll definitely up the spices next time; maybe some hot & soy sauces+1 tsp ea dried oregano and parsley! I'll also simmer the rice and lentils in vegetable broth next time. Use a stand mixer to combine the cooled ingredients; the patties stayed together perfectly while frying! - 3/21/11

I have to ask the recipe's contributor, but how do you manage to keep them together? Is it the type of oatmeal or the type of rice which provides binder to hold its shape. I gave up and sprinkled a little Parmesan cheese on the surface of my GF grill & on the top of the patties to "glue" together - 11/30/09

The first time around they turned out great. I did add more seasoning to them, though. But after I took some out of the freezer for the second time around they came out very soft and could barely keep together. Another good point is that me and my boyfriend will probably get 4 meals out of them! - 6/15/08

They were very yummy.. A hit with my household but ended up with like 13 patties and they were not small by any means... not sure why, but it was a plus all the same froze some for another day... served them with apple slices, carrots sticks and cheese cubes for a nice well ballanced, filling meal! - 3/12/07

I LOVE these! I make a double batch of these and freeze them. They're wonderful for a quick lunch with a salad or a pile of steamed veggies. For some heat and a smoked flavor I add a couple diced Serrano chilies to the mix before I cook the patties along with 2 heaping tablespoon of smoked paprika. - 4/23/13

Wow- much better than I thought a non-meat burger would taste! I used some overcooked (mushy) brown rice. I cooked the lentils with a beef boullion cube, drained, and then mixed in rice and other ingredients. I used a Tb of lower-salt seasoning salt and a TB of Mrs. Dash. Bake at 400. Made 10! - 1/29/12

This recipe is easy and the burgers are pretty good. Definitely a recipe that I will continue to use. There wasn't a ton of flavor to them, but nothing you can't fix with some mustard and a pickle or seasoning. Calories are WAY off! If you make 16 patties (instead of the 8), it's about 100 each. - 10/1/11

lovely recipe, I've never worked with lentils before so i was a bit apprehensive, i did blend the vegetables though - i don't have a grater, and it seemed to gel just fine. Added broccoli and cauliflower into the mix as it needed using up. The recipe ended up creating a lot more than intended, eek - 9/17/11

We enjoyed these a lot. I didn't have probem with consistency because I let them cool as instructed. I did however add more seasoning as I knew garlic power and salt was not going to be enough flavor. I don't use salt so I added cumin, Mrs Dash onion and herb and Caribbean citrus flavor. Yummy! - 5/7/11

I made the burgers by the recipe, but felt that the frying was too dry to get a good crust on the outside. I added a couple Tablespoons of Canola oil with the next batch, and they had a great crunchy texture to the outside. I served as a cheeseburger, w/ketchup but no bun. Son10 likes them! HURRAY! - 1/19/11

I added a couple slices of fresh tomato, some cucumber ranch dressing and vwala! a master piece! My two young boys and my husband were ravenous for these delicious burgers! Thank you so much for sharing this yummy recipe. I had no idea what to do with lentils before this! now it's a staple - 1/17/11

I was so looking forward to adding this recipe to my box, but it just didn't work out. The patties wouldn't stay together, and the flavor was so bland. The only good, savory flavor came from the browning from the skillet. I will try adding andouille sausage to the leftovers. Disappointed :( - 11/14/10
