Low calorie oat scones
Submitted by: PHEBESSIntroduction
I love oat scones for breakfast - these substitute applesauce for the butter, making them lower in fat and calories. I love oat scones for breakfast - these substitute applesauce for the butter, making them lower in fat and calories.Number of Servings: 6
Ingredients
-
3/4 cup all purpose unbleached flour
1/4 cup sugar - brown or raw cane sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups rolled oats - not instant
1/4 cup raisins
1 large egg
10 tablespoons (5 fluid oz) unsweetened applesauce
1/3 cup skim milk
Directions
1. Combine all the dry ingredients (first 5 items) - but hold the raisins.
2. Mix the wet ingredients (last 3 items).
3. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients - stir in the raisins, and mix well.
4. Drop by large spoonfuls onto an ungreased nonstick cookie sheet - leave space, these rise.
5. Bake 350 F for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. They won't brown because the fat is so low - but you can always toast them in a toaster oven if you like a crispy outside.
