Submitted by: JBECK1982

Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

2 C Unbleached All Purpose Flour
    1/3 C plus 2 Tbsp Sugar
    1 tsp Baking Powder
    1/2 tsp Baking Soda
    1/2 tsp Salt
6 Tbsp (3/4 stick) Blue Bonnet, chilled, diced
    3/4 C Miniature Sem-Sweet Chocolate Chips
    3/4 C Buttermilk, chilled
    1 Large Egg Yolk
    1 tsp Vanilla Extract

For Glaze: (not included in nutrition info listed)
    1 1/2 C Powdered Sugar
4 Tbsp Whipping Cream or Milk

Directions

Butter and Flour baking sheet. Sift 2 C flour, 1/3 C sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt into large bowl. Add butter; rub in with fingertips until butter is reduced to size of rice grains. Mix in chocolate chips. Whisk buttermilk, egg yolk and vanilla in small bowl to blend. Add buttermilk mixture to dry ingredients; mix until dough comes together in moist clumps. Gather dough into ball. Press dough out on lightly floured surface to two 4-inch rounds; cut round into 4 wedges. Transfer wedges to prepared baking sheet, spacing 1 inch apart. (can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)

Preheat oven to 400. Brush scones lightly with milk; sprinkle with remaining 2 Tbsp sugar. Bake until scones are crusty on top and tester inserted into center comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Serve warm.

Can add glaze by mixing powdered sugar and whipping cream or milk and pouring over top of cooled scones and letting set.
