Boiled Dinner

Submitted by: CHARMED1383

Introduction

This is a wonderful harvest dinner, full of veggies from the garden. We even have an old milk container (stainless steel) that we use over an open fire and boil the dinner that way while camping. Ingredients

Water - to fill a large soup pot
    2lbs Ham - picnic
    1 Rutabaga
    1lb fresh carrots
    3lb B size red potatoes
    1 medium onion
    1 bay leaf
    2 tbsp Beef soup base
    1 head of cabbage
    1 1/2 lbs Polish Keilbasa
    salt
    pepper

Directions

In a large soup pot filled with water add bay leaf, soup base, salt, pepper, onion, and Ham to a boil for about 1/2 hour. Add rutabage and boil for another 1/2 hour. Add carrots and potatoes and boil another hour. Add cabbage and Keilbasa and boil til cabbage is tender. Serve with rolls and makes a delicious meal. Can be made with only ham or only keilbasa. But this recipe was calculated with both. Serves around 15 people.
