Slow Cooker Pasta with Meat Sauce

Submitted by: JRZYGRL75

Introduction

Whole wheat rotini pasta slow cooked with meat sauce in the crock pot. Whole wheat rotini pasta slow cooked with meat sauce in the crock pot.
Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    2 lbs of ground beef
Spices to taste - Salt, black pepper, garlic powder, italian seasoning
1 - 28 oz can of Petite Diced Tomatoes
2 - 26 oz jars of Spaghetti Sauce
2 - 12 oz boxes of Whole Wheat Rotini
    3 tbsp of canola oil
1 large (5 quart at least) crock pot

Directions

1 - Turn the crock pot on high
2 - Add the canola oil, ground beef and the spices and cover.
3 - Brown the ground beef in the crock pot. Be sure to stir occasionally so the meat does not clump together. This will take a while, especially if the crock pot was cold when the meat was added. (possibly an hour)
4 - After the ground beef is fully cooked, open the can of diced tomatoes and add the entire can to the crock pot.
5 - Add both jars of spaghetti sauce and 1 cup of water.
6 - Cover and let cook for at least an hour and a half. Stir occasionally.
7 - Add both boxes of pasta to the crock pot and stir the mixture so the pasta is completely submerged in the sauce.
8 - Cover and let cook for at least an hour and a half. Stir occasionally.

Total cooking time will be somewhere around 4 hours depending on how hard or soft you like the pasta. I use wheat pasta for this recipe because it doesn't get as soft as regular pasta. Any type of pasta can be substituted.

Make 12 - 16 servings.

  • Delicious and simple. The only thing is that the pasta got really soft and not even an hour had gone by, so just keep an eye on it. We will definitely make this again! - 2/22/11
