Introduction

based on Mazetti's restaurant spaghetti in Ohio based on Mazetti's restaurant spaghetti in Ohio
Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

    Ground beef, lean, 1 lb
    Green bell pepper, chopped
    Red Onion, chopped
    2 cloves chopped garlic
2.5 cans (~35oz) Italian diced tomatoes, with juice
    Tomato Sauce, 1.5 cans
    1 tsp basil
    1 tsp oregano
1 3.5 ounce can sliced or chopped black olives
Kraft Finely Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese, 2 cup
    Bread crumbs, plain, 1 cup
    Ronco Thin Spaghetti, 1 package

Directions

Preheat oven to 350F. Cook beef, onion, bell pepper, and garlic until beef is no longer pink. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil and oregano. Bring to a boil, and then simmer about 20 minutes or until thickened. Meanwhile, boil water for spaghetti in another pot.

Take sauce off heat. Add the olives and one cup of the cheese and mix gently. Mix in spaghetti. Pour mixture into a lightly greased 10x15 casserole dish, then add bread crumbs and other cup of cheese on top. Cook for approximately 30 minutes in oven, or until top is lightly browned.

Variations: when my mother makes this, she leaves out the breadcrumbs and adds the other cup of cheese in the last 5 minutes of baking. It's just as delicious, and with a bit fewer calories! She also adds a small can of mushrooms, for those of you who are so inclined.
