Pain Perdu ala Wendy

Introduction

French toast French toast
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    3/4 C Nonfat Milk
    1 T sugar, divided
    1/2 t Cinnamon
    1 1/2 t Vanilla Extract
    1/4 t grated whole nutmeg
    1/8 t salt
    1 whole egg
    3 egg whites
    8 (1 oz) slices of day old french bread
    2 C sliced strawberries
    2 t orange zest (peel)
    Pam butter flavored cooking spray
    1 T powdered sugar

Directions

1. Combine milk, 1/2 of sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, salt and eggs in a large bowl; stir with a whisk. Place bread slices in a 13x9 inch baking dish; pour egg mixture over bread; turn to coat. Let stand at room temperature 20 minutes, turning occasionally, until egg is absorbed.
2. Combine strawberries, remaining 1/2 T of sugar, and zest in a small bowl. Let stand 20 minutes.
3. Spray pan with Pam and heat over medium heat. Add 4 bread slices to pan; cook for 3 1/2 minutes each side or until golden brown. Repeat this step with Pam and remaining bread slices.
4. Place 2 bread slices on each of 4 plates. Sprinkle each serving with powdered sugar; top each with 1/2 c strawberry mixture. Yields: 4 servings.
