This reminds me of the shepard's pie my mom used to make! Delicious...you could use real mashed potatoes instead of boxed. This reminds me of the shepard's pie my mom used to make! Delicious...you could use real mashed potatoes instead of boxed.Number of Servings: 6
Ingredients
-
1 1/2 lbs. extra-lean ground beef
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1/4 c. chopped onion
1/4 c. ketchup
2 tsp. yellow mustard
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. water
3 Tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 c. milk
2 c. plain mashed potato mix
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese (4 oz.)
1 tomato, chopped
3 slices precooked bacon, crumbled
Directions
1) Heat oven to 375 F. Mix beef, bread crumbs, onion, ketchup, mustard, salt in a bowl. Press mixture in bottom and sides of an ungreased 9" glass pie plate. Bake 15 min.
2) In 3 qt. saucepan, place water, butter, garlic salt. Heat to a boil. Remove from heat; add milk. With fork, stir in potatoes, then add 1/2 c. cheese.
3) Remove partially baked beef from oven; pour off drippings. Spoon and spread potato mixture into crust. Bake 10-15 min.
4) Remove pie from oven. Top with tomato, remaining 1/2 cup cheese, and bacon; bake 5 min. or until cheese is melted. Top with sliced scallions, if so desired. Let stand 10 min. before serving.
