Heidi's Turkey Chili

Submitted by: REDHEIDIBOE

Introduction

Yummy! Most everything is from cans, so this is a quick and easy week-night supper. Add cheese or extra onions, or light sour cream for your own personal touches. Sometimes we have it over rice, just remember to count the nutritional values for all the extras! Yummy! Most everything is from cans, so this is a quick and easy week-night supper. Ingredients

    1 pound lean ground turkey
    1 cup chopped raw onions
    3 Tbsp chili powder
1 large can diced tomatoes (28 oz)
1 10 oz can Ro*Tel tomatoes and chilis
1 15.25 oz can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 15.5 oz dark red kidney beans (or 2 cans of your favorites)

Directions

Makes 6-7 good-size servings.

In a large Dutch oven spray Pam and brown turkey over medium to high heat, with about a tablespoon of chili powder, breaking up chunks. Push the meat to one side in the pot.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and saute until they soften, maybe 3 minutes. Mix up the meat and onions and add in the rest of the chili powder and the tomatoes and beans. If you like it hotter or milder, change the amount of chili powder (or add some Tabasco), as you like it.

Simmer at low to medium heat, stirring frequently, for about 30 minutes.

  • Good recipe. If I liked ground turkey more, I'd say it was great. Goes together quick, makes a ton. The kids both really liked it (miracle!). So did their Dad, but he likes everything. - 11/2/09

  • I make mine with chili beans rather than the chili powder and other beans but basically same idea. It is definitely my favorite chili. - 9/9/09
