Authentic Hungarian Gulyas

Introduction

This is a recipe from a friend of mine from hungary. I am typing this out just the way she wrote it. This is a recipe from a friend of mine from hungary. I am typing this out just the way she wrote it.
Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

    5-6 lb of 1 inch cube of beef
    1 med to large onion (fist size)
    1 med green pepper (sliced)
    1 med ripe tomato (sliced)
    1 1/2 Tbsp of red paprika (bulk, winco)
    1 1/2 cup white wine
    1 12 oz beef broth
    7-8 cloves of garlic (optional)
    2-3 Tbsp olive oil
    add salt to taste.


Directions

Slice and saute' onion in oil, 7-8 minutes, add beef cubes, stir on high heat to brown meat or it is not raw looking anymore. Heat down to medium.
Add red paprika, mix and add : wine, beef broth mix and taste it see how much salt needed.
Bring to boil adding tomato, green pepper and garlic cloves.
When it starts to boil, see if meat is covered with liquid, if needed add water. It have to have 1/2 - 1 inch of liquid over meat. You will cook it for about 2 hours slowly. No stirring needed. Serve with any pasta of your choice or even serve with patatoe, cucumber salad is the must to serve with.
