Orange Peel Rolls

Ingredients

    1 pkg. (1/4 oz) dry yeast
    1/4 cup lukewarm water
    1 cup fat free milk
    1/3 cup sugar
    1/2 cup shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    3 tbsp. grated orange peel (about 3 oranges)
    5 cups flour
    1 stick butter, melted

Directions

In small bowl, mix yeast and 1/4 cup lukewarm water. In large bowl, put in very warm milk, sugar, shortening and salt. Mix in 1 egg and grated orange peel. Add yeast mixture, then mix in flour. Knead dough on lightly floured surface, until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease all sides. Cover and let rise in warm oven to about twice the size or more (about an hour or so). Roll out as thin as possible. Cut in strips about 6" by 1". Shape into curly Q by holding one end and swirling the other end around it. (It will look sorta like Marge Simpsons hair.) Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in 375 degree oven for about 5-7 minutes or until just golden underneath. Brush tops with melted butter when done. Let cool completely and store in airtight container.

Makes about 6 dozen (depending on how thin you roll it out, or what size your strips are)
