Rice & Barley

Introduction

This is my favorite way to cook brown rice. Since you can vary the cooking liquid, you can use it with just about anything. This is my favorite way to cook brown rice. Since you can vary the cooking liquid, you can use it with just about anything.

Makes a big batch, so you can scoop some out several times. Kind of bland, so I add a bit of cayenne, or red pepper flakes. - 8/21/10

  • I made something like this myself. But it's just me at home and I had lots of leftovers. I took about a cup of leftovers and made stuffed green peppers. I took my normal meatloaf recipe and while still raw, I added the rice/barley to it. Baked the stuffed peppers for about 45 minutes .No waste. - 2/13/09

  • I don't normally like the taste of brown rice and it seems to take too long to cook, but this recipe has changed my mind. I didn't use the bay leave, but made a batch and froze in individual portions to have with a quick meal. Very nice! - 7/29/07

  • Easy to prepare. I would leave out bay leaf. It doesn't do much. - 3/13/07
