Ingredients

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 cups 2% milk
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
2 teaspoons cloves, ground
1 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
3 cups flour
(NOTE: shortening can be substituted for the butter and buttermilk can be substituted for the 2% milk and lemon juice - this will affect the nutritional content)
Directions
Add lemon juice to milk and let curdle. Cream sugar and butter. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk and mix until smooth. Pour into greased and floured 9 X 13 cake pan and bake at 350 degrees about 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut into 3-inch by 2-inch pieces and enjoy.
