Mary's Penne Pasta with Hamburger

Introduction

This is my version of a spaghetti dish. I prefer penne pasta and the use of bottled sauce makes this quick & easy! It's also quite versatile as I have used a variety of different sauces. I've varied the other ingredients as well, e.g. add parmesan cheese, omit mushrooms, etc. You can also use other types of pasta. This is especially good served with garlic toast! Ingredients

    Ground Beef, 1 lb., 93% Lean
    Mushrooms, canned, drained, approx. 1 cup
    Barilla Plus Penne Pasta, 3.5 oz. (approx. 100 grams)
    Prego Heart Smart Ricotta Parmesan Italian Sauce, 1-10 oz. bottle (3 cup)
    Onions, raw, 1/3 cup, chopped
    Green Peppers (bell peppers), 1/2 cup, chopped
    Promise Buttery Spread, 1 tbsp
    Garlic powder, 1 tbsp (or to taste)
    Basil, 1 tsp (or to taste)
    Oregano, ground, 1 tsp (or to taste)
    Pepper, red or cayenne, 1/8 tsp (or to taste)
    Pepper, black, 2 tsp (or to taste)

Directions

Prepare pasta in sauce pan per package directions but shorten time to 8 minutes so it is not quite done, as this will finish cooking when mixed with hamburger and sauce (see below). Meanwhile, brown and drain hamburger. Set aside. In same frying pan, saute green peppers and onions together in Promise buttery spread. Add mushrooms, cook briefly then, keeping heat on, add garlic, herbs and peppers (amounts are approx., per taste). Stir together. Add drained hamburger, drained pasta, and Prego sauce. Mix together well. Adjust heat to med/low. Cover, stir frequently. Cook 8 to 10 minutes. Makes approx. 6 1.25 cup servings.
