3.5 point Simple Bagels

Introduction

Bagels that we made on New Year's Day 2010 Bagels that we made on New Year's Day 2010
Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

    4.5 C Flour
    2 packets yeast
    1 T Salt
    1.5 warm water
    3 T sugar

    1 T Sugar for boiling water

Directions

Mix 3 cups flour, salt and yeast. Add sugar to warm water and then add to other dry ingredients and mix on low in the mixer for 30 seconds. Mix on higher speed for 3 minutes and add as much of the rest of the flour as possible.

Let the dough rise for 20 minutes under a cloth in a warm area.

Cut the dough into 12 equal parts, roll into 12 balls and poke a finger through each to make a 2 inch hole. Put bagels on a baking sheet coated with Pam and cover with a cloth again and let rise for 20 minutes.

Broil the bagels on low, 5 inches from the heat, for 90 seconds on each side.

Boil a big pot of water and add 1 T sugar. Put 4 bagels at a time in the boiling water and boil on each side for 4 minutes and then drain and return them to the "greased" baking sheet.

Bake at 425 degrees for 25 minutes.
