For the filling:
2/3 cup raisins (unpacked)
3 medium apples (about 2 2/3 cups)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
For the topping:
3/4 cup butter
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional, not included in the nutritional info)
2. In a small bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and sprinkle the mixture over the fruit.
3. To make the topping, first melt the butter and set it aside. In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, salt and egg until they're evenly blended. Whisk in the butter, then spread the topping over the fruit and sprinkle on the nuts.
4. Bake the pie until golden brown, about 40 minutes. Serve it warm, with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if you like. Serves 16.
