1 cup sugar 3/4 cup shortening 1/4 cup molasses 1 egg 2 cups flour 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. ginger 1/2 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt extra sugar
Beat 1 cup sugar and shortening together. Add molasses and egg. Beat well. In a separate bowl, stir together dry ingredients. Mix dry ingredients into sugar mixture till well combined. Using a small ice cream scoop, make walnut sized balls. Roll each in granulated sugar. Place on cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with a glass. Sprinkle with a little more sugar. Bake 350 for 10 minutes. Store in a plastic bin and keep a slice of white bread in bin to keep cookies soft.
