Ingredients

3 c. flour
4 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp cream of tartar (optional)
2 1/2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3/4 c shortening (may substitute butter or margarine)
1 egg
1 c. milk (I use 2%)
Directions
Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.
Sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening with fork or pastry cutter. Beat egg and add milk together. Add dry ingredients, mix with a fork. Turn out on floured board and knead 2-3 minutes. Roll out and cut, or make drop biscuits. Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Makes approximately 12 servings.
