Apple Cinnamon PB Porridge

Introduction

Whole grain oatmeal groats cooked in the slow cooker. Several days breakfast prepared in advance. One serving provides whole grain, fruit, healthy fat and fiber. Whole grain oatmeal groats cooked in the slow cooker. Several days breakfast prepared in advance. One serving provides whole grain, fruit, healthy fat and fiber.
Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

    2 cups oatmeal groats
    1/2 cup golden flax seed
    1/2 cup turbinado sugar
    2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    4 cups apples, chopped and peeled
    1/2 cup peanut butter
    2 tsp. salt
    8 cups water

Directions

Makes 12 one-cup servings

Spray slow cooker bowl with non-stick spray. Combine dry ingredients and mix. Add water and stir. Add apples and stir again. Cook on low setting for at least 4 hours - longer if desired. When porridge reaches its desired thickness, add peanut butter and stir. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Store in airtight containers in refrigerator. Serve one cup per serving. Warm in the microwave in m'wave safe dish.
