Ingredients

    Instant, Quick, and Regular Oats Cereal, 1 cup, dry, yields
    Apples, fresh, 1 medium
    Cinnamon, ground, 2 tbsp
    Vanilla Extract, 2 tbsp
    Raisins, 1 small box (1.5 oz)
    Brown Sugar, 2 tsp packed
    Milk, nonfat, 0.5 cup
    Water, tap, 2 cup (8 fl oz)
    Water, tap, 0.25 cup (8 fl oz)

Directions

Core and chop apples (unpeeled).
in a small pot add 1/4 cup water, brown sugar, apples, raisins, cinnamon and vanilla extract and simmer on medium heat until apples are extra soft and liquids are a syrupy consistency.
While the fruit are cooking, in a medium sized pot bring the rest of the water to a boil.
Add the oatmeal and cook as usual until done. Combine the oatmeal and fruit concoction and simmer on low heat.
Add milk , cover and turn off heat.
Serve hot or warm.

  • So good. Made in the slow cooker.Increased the water to 3 cups .Put everything in and let it cook. Sorry I made a mistake with the rating it should have been 5 not 2.Please try it - 1/3/12

  • This was really yummy! I expected it to be sweeter at first, but...it was great just like it was! I didn't have enough cinnamon, though...so I sprinkled in some pumpkin pie spice to make up the difference. Hey, whatever works, right? I think 1 serving = .75 cup. - 1/31/11

  • This was a nice warm dish to eat first thing in the morning. Took very little time to make, and it was nice to start off with 2 fruit servings so early. :) - 5/21/08

    I made this with enough oatmeal to serve 5, and I cut the cinnamon down to 1 tbsp. It still had too much cinnamon for my husband's taste. I've made apple oatmeal before without a "recipe" that was better. - 11/7/07
