Stove-top shepard's pie topping

Submitted by: SYWALLOCH

Introduction

I love Shepard's pie at Irish Pub's, but admit I've never actually made the real thing. This was a quick-fix recipe when my family wanted something different one night. Maybe not very authentic, but easy and flavorful. A complete meal in 2 pans and less than 30 minutes. Enjoy. I love Shepard's pie at Irish Pub's, but admit I've never actually made the real thing. Ingredients

    2 tsp olive oil
    1 small onion
    2 carrots
    2 stalks celery
    1 lb lean ground beef
    salt
    pepper
    basil
    oregano
    thyme
    all spice
    worchestershire sauce (about 1 Tbsp)
    1 clove garlic

Mashed Potatoes (not included in nutrition info)

Directions

Heat olive oil in skillet at medium temp. Chop veggies and crush garlic, add all to skillet. Add spices and herbs to taste, about 1/2 tsp each. Cook until veggies soften and onion becomes translucent. Add beef and worchestershire sauce. Brown meat and turn down to low.

While topping is cooking, prepare your favorite mashed potatoes. (Obviously if you make real potatoes, you'll need to start them ahead of time).

Cook until meat is no longer pink. Serve on top of mashed potatoes. Serves 5.
