Bariatric Galabki (Stuffed Cabbage Rolls) tlh
I like these because they are a complete meal-in-one. Meat, vegetable and a little starch all wrapped up in each bundle.
This recipe makes up quicker than most when using a pressure cooker but it can be baked in the oven or in a Dutch oven on top of the stove.
There is some brown rice in it but the percentage of carbs is low and the protein is high. Ground turkey could be substituted for one or both of the meats but the nutrition information would need to be changed.
There are many different kinds of stuffed cabbage recipes originating from many countries. This is more like the Polish-type (pronounced go-wum-ki) and is simpler than others. If your lifestyle is like mine, simple is better! Submitted by: LAPBAND2008

Bariatric Lynn's Hawaiian-Style Pork Chops
This recipe is so easy to make!
Because I have a Lap-Band, I used the SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend in this recipe but if you want or need to avoid all sugar, you may replace it with 3 Tablespoons of the SPLENDA® that measures like sugar (not the packets) and you will need to find a sugar-free ketchup. The nutritional information will need to be changed accordingly.
It is important to begin with very fresh and very lean boneless pork chops. I found a large Family- Pack of 6 chops that weighed 2.30 pounds. When I removed every last bit of fat, I ended up with exactly 2 pounds of lean meat.
Other similar recipes call for the sauce to be cooked and thickened before pouring over the chops but I found that the sauce thickens very nicely on its own without pre-cooking it, thus saving a step and time!
Just a side note: The first time I made this, I forgot the ketchup and it was still delicious.Submitted by: LAPBAND2008

Bariatric Zucchini Squash & Tofu Skillet
The zucchini and onions can be cooked to whatever degree of tenderness needed to make this dish easy to digest for those of us with Lap-Bands. If in the early stages post-op, the squash could be peeled and, if necessary, the seeds removed, although it would lose a significant amount of its fiber and nutritional value by doing so. This can also be pureed.
The tofu takes on the flavor of the other ingredients yet adds a nice texture to this dish in addition to some always-welcome protein!

Bariatric Lynn's Pork Gyros with Yogurt-Tomato Sauce
This recipe calls for the pork to be marinaded for 1-4 hours. I did not include the ingredients in the marinade in the nutritional information because when the meat is removed from the marinade, it is to be patted dry before grilling or broiling.
I used pork medallions for this recipe. I started with 2 pounds. After removing all visible fat, I ended up with 1 lb + 12 oz. After cooking, the pork weighed 1 lb + 3 oz.
Don't waste the trimmings from the meat as there is usually some meat attached. I make stock by boiling the trimmings in water until the meat is done and the fat is mostly melted. Trim away the chunks so that only meat and no fat is left in the stock. Refrigerate it overnight, skim off the fat, label and freeze to be used for soups, stews, etc. later.
You will need the recipe called Bariatric Lynn's Yogurt-Tomato Sauce for this. The nutritional information for the sauce is not included with this recipe.Submitted by: LAPBAND2008

Bariatric Lynn's 15 Bean Soup w/Turkey Ham
The trick to using Turkey Ham in slow cooking soups and stews is to not put it in early or else the ham flavoring cooks out of the turkey and the end result is not especially tasty, especially when expecting it to be ham-flavored. Yet I stil want a ham flavoring to this bean soup so I added 4 ounces of turkey ham chopped into 1/4-inch cubes to the bean soup at the start of the cooking process and added 12 ounces of 3/4-inch cubes just a few minutes from serving the soup. The small amount of turkey ham added early provided the ham flavoring and the small cube size mixed right in with the beans and took on the flavoring of the beans so there was no problem with the taste.
If you cannot find the Hurst's 15 Bean Soup in your grocery store, you may contact the company at www.hambeens.com or by calling 1-800-426-2336. Another comparable bean soup mix could also be used if the nutrition information is comparable.
I have given instructions for the traditional method for making this soup and a quick method but I do not recommend the quick method because it can cause more digestive problems for people. Beans cooked slowly for a long time significantly reduces any digestive problems or flatulence.Submitted by: LAPBAND2008

This could also be pureed for those early post-surgical stages.

This is very quick-to-fix. It makes a large and very filling entrée for lunch or supper. If you have had bariatric surgery, cut it in half and save the other half for the next day or a snack later the same day (if your family doesn't gobble it up first)!
