But does anyone know, why not black pepper?? - 1/20/14

  • I watched this three times, and finally have pretty good-looking eggs. It would have been helpful if the video showed us the water when it was at the right temperature. - 1/13/14

  • I love poached eggs and I make it on a regular basis. I always crack it in the water so why does she recommend to not do this? I have heard other chefs talk about using vinegar. I use salt. I have never swirled the water. I will try it this way. - 9/25/13

  • When I became diabetic, I added veggies to my diet. In the morning I would open a can of spinach and at boiling, I would add two eggs. Will try your method now as the fresh spinach is better for you and love what vinegar does. - 6/13/13

  • White vinegar is used as it will not turn the egg color. White vinegar is great for so many things - not just cooking. - 6/11/13

  • Thanks for the great video! I can't wait to try this, complete with the cooked spinach. I've never cooked spinach, but this looks like a breakfast I'd love. - 1/22/13

  • Is it less healthy id I just sautee the spinach in a little bit of oil and not steam it? - 1/20/13

  • I just tried the recipe in this video yesterday. Wonderful! First time I poached an egg and it was delicious. I love how soft the egg is! It may seem silly to have an instructional video on a simple technique like poaching eggs, but it's so helpful! Thanks Chef Meg! - 1/20/13

  • Great video! Poached is my favorite way to eat eggs, so this video really helps. And I believe reasoning behind white pepper being used on eggs has to do with presentation; you don't see white pepper, with black pepper you would see the specks of black. - 1/19/13

  • Thank you for this demonstration Chef Meg. It was very imformative. One question...Why must you only use white pepper on eggs? - 1/13/13

  • I like black pepper! I dislike spinach very much. I would do this with maybe some shaved low salt deli ham over whole grain toast. I love poached eggs! My absolute favorite. - 1/12/13

  • Unfortunately I was unable to view the video. Too bad as I love poached eggs! - 8/26/12

  • What is wrong with using black pepper on eggs? I've never used white pepper for anything. Is this some how wrong? I do appreciate the clear instruction on how to poach an egg properly. I've never managed to do it right. I'll probably just use the spinach fresh though, I don't like it cooked. - 7/26/12

  • What else can we use if allergic to vinegar? Lemon juice perhaps? - 6/7/12

  • Bought a a microwave egg poacher for my grandson, I've never used it. I have never put vinegar in my water. I do salt the water a little, this helps keep the egg together. Maybe the vinegar helps to float the done egg. I just don't want my eggs to have a vinegar taste. I love poached eggs. - 7/5/11

  • Looks easier than what I do. - 5/3/11

  • You learn something new everyday - 2/2/11

  • I often have poached egg for breakfast and like Meg use vinegar / the swirly water, yet end up with a ragged object with lots of 'cooked foam' circling in the pan. I tried Meg's way, the water just short of simmering and cooked a PERFECT egg for the FIRST TIME EVER. I am so chuffed. Thank you Meg x - 3/31/10

  • well, since I was a child I always put a ton of fresh cracked black pepper on my eggs. It's not like it's hazardous to your health so I don't know why she would say you NEVER use black pepper on eggs, must just be a chef preference. I save my white pepper for asian dishes and soups. :) - 3/30/10

  • Great tips - makes me want one for b'fast! Would love to see you kitchen "greener" - skip the paper towels and use your hands! BTW - it would be nice to explain why white pepper - I think it's for reasons of color, but would love to know more as would at least one other commenter. Great videos! - 3/30/10

  • I have used this method for years, but instead of white vinegar, I often use Balsamic Vinegar. It does slightly discolour it, but tastes great!
