  • Thank you Meg for this very helpful video. Come to find out I've been slicing them, etc. the hard way. This is how I'll get one prepared to eat. I hope it's as simple to do as it looks. I love Avocados and have been eating them all my life. I also like the Haas Avocado flavor best. - 4/20/14

  • The knife in the seed trick is great! - 3/3/14

  • As Chef Meg said, avocado is a healthy mono-unsaturated fat, but don't overdo. You can check the Nutrition Tracker; my allowable portion is 1/4 of one fruit. Any more and you might exceed your fat gram limit for the day (and calories). They are sooo good! - 11/9/13

  • I love this video! I learned I am picking a good avacado and using a knife to pull out the seed! Genius! - 11/5/13

  • make your quac with some cucumber and it will not turn brown right away - 10/7/13

  • I need to start watching these videos before I buy the fruit/vege... Thanks for the great demo! - 8/24/13

  • Yes, leave the halved avocado in the skin and use an knife to carefully slice or dice, then flip the skin "inside out" and you will have nice little chunks OR spoon it out directly into your mixing bowl - great for guacamole - it will be mashed anyway! No greasy mess to clean up! - 7/17/13

  • great! thank you - it is so easy. - 7/12/13

  • I have just started eating avocados- I had eaten a mix that had a lot of mayo in it and thought I hated them, but when I actually ate a ripe and good avocado I was hooked- it is filling and healthy instead of eating an unhealthy carb snack - 7/3/13

  • Great video - 7/3/13

  • Debalderman is correct! Halve the avocado & then dice or slice while still in the skin. Take a large spoon & scoop it out into whatever you are making. You do not have to touch the fruit or wash that board! - 7/2/13

  • Nice... - 5/26/13

  • Thanks for the tip on the seed keeping the guacamole from turning black. I haven't ever been able to eat all my guacamole that I make (with just one avocado) and no one to share it with, so a lot has been thrown out. - 1/29/13

  • After mixing into guacomole put the seed back into the mix to keep it from turning brown. - 1/29/13

  • That is so easy! Now I'm not so intimidated to buy one! Thanks, Chef Meg.

  • I never knew that! Thanks, Meg! - 8/29/12

  • great video - 8/28/12

  • Now I know how to do it! - 8/28/12

  • It's actually pronounced HASS as in LASS or MASS. Just an FYI from a Cali girl! - 8/20/12

  • Ha! It's that easy! And all this time, I didn't know how to do it and mangled the fruit! - 8/15/12

  • To keep the avocado from discoloring before you eat it, spritz with lemon juice, or sprinkle with Fruit Fresh (citric acid crystals). This is a tropical fruit--like a banana, it won't store for long in cold conditions. - 6/29/12

  • Oh my goodness - I just use my thumb to get the flesh from the shell after slicing in half. Of course, I'm cooking at home, not in a restaurant, so I think that's allowed ;-)
For short-term leftovers, tuck the seed in and wrap tightly in plastic wrap... - 6/25/12

  • I use half but the other half goes bad before I can use it. I saw somewhere where someone said you could freeze them! So I took the skin off and pitted mine ( cut in half) and put them in a baggyin the freezer. I can take them out now and make guacomole when ever I want. They even stay green. - 6/25/12

  • I've found an easier way to do this. Cut avocado in half and remove pit. Make your slices both directions while still in peel. When you scrape it out with a spoon you have perfectly cut up avocado. This is how they do it in authentic Mexican restaurants! - 5/14/12

  • I have this cool little kitchen gadget that you insert into the wide part of the avocado you scrape it against the inner skin and it slices the flesh for you. I use it all the time. - 4/5/12

  • Thank you. Now how about a few recipes for avocados beyond dicing and throwing in a salad. - 3/28/12

  • The avocado has become a staple at my house! I learned how to slice it finally! Thanks. - 3/26/12

  • yum! - 3/26/12

  • Thanks, I always wondered of there was a better way of getting the seed out other than using a spoon.
    - 3/25/12

  • I always slice or dice the flesh, prior to removing it from the skin. That way, you can scoop it right onto your salad, or into a bowl for guacamole. without getting another surface dirty. - 3/25/12

  • How easy was that!!!! - 3/25/12

  • Thanks, couldn't be simpler. - 3/5/12

  • I eat 2 or 3 a week ... love them .... glad you explained to folks how to tell when they are ripe. Do not refrigerate until you get the ripeness you desire as they will stop ripening once you put them in the fridge. - 2/16/12

  • i just had that for lunch with crab in it. yum! easy tip - 2/16/12

  • This is very nice. I always make a mess of it. - 2/16/12

  • Love it! Thanks, Chef Meg! - 2/16/12

  • Great tip! Thanks! - 2/16/12

  • loved this! more kitchen tips, please! - 2/16/12

  • great - 4/22/11

  • How simple! How pretty! - 2/23/11

  • I have always used a combined "ChefMeg Avocado&Mango" technique.
Slice or dice the avocado in its peel, and use a spoon to get the sl/dices out. No green stuff on the fingers. - 7/25/10

  • No way to Save for viewing when needed? - 7/21/10

  • If the avocado is ripe, (after you slice it in half) simply run your thumb along the outer edge of the fruit -- all the way around. You'll be able to stick your finger (thumb) underneath (between the skin and the flesh) and the fruit will pop right out! - 2/7/10

  • Great advice, I have already put a knife thru my hand getting the pit out. - 1/19/10

  • great. simple. to the point. I used to make such a mess trying to do this. - 1/19/10

  • Rather than dirty up the second knife, I just use the spoon to scoop out a slice. - 12/13/09
