For a delicious homemade sauce, I use 1(15 oz) can of tomato sauce, 1/4 tsp each of Parsley flakes, sweet basil, oregano, & garlic. For spicy pizza add 1/4 tsp pepper. Bring it to a boil and simmer 15 minutes.
My family loves pepperoni, so I place it between paper towels and microwave it for 30 seconds/until crisp. It takes out most of the fat and the crispy pieces will soften up when baked in the pizza sauce.

as vegans, obviously meats and cheeses are out. but I found to my surprise that minus the cheese, a good - no, a GREAT pizza - is still an option. we make our own pizza dough, and often sub whole wheat or other flours to boost protein. as a sauce, we use a very low salt marinara, or substitute cannelini or broad beans whirred up with some chipotle and garlic for a great quasi-mex taste. the trick is not to overload your toppings, and make sure you have the best! try carmelizing the onions beforehand in just a touch of olive oil and using fresh heirloom tomatoes, and fresh herbs like basil. there's even a great potato pizza recipe made with low-oil pesto, thin sliced potatoes, and carmelized onion. it's all about taste!

I have made homemade pizza for years. I use a whole wheat crust and add whole flaxseed for a wonderful nutty flavor. I am starting to experiment with different herbs in the crust for variety. My kids love to pick their own toppings.

I have had home made pizza for most of my life and I would rather have home made than almost anything (of course, except for when I don't want to cook). I use turkey pepperoni, but when I lived at home we would get the big sandwich pepperoni and fry it to take some of the fat off. I hate a greasy pizza!

I'm so glad to see this article. We own a small independent pizza restaurant and have made a big effort to have a lot of toppings to choose from, including healthy choices like fresh tomato slices, broccoli, as well as the stuff everyone offers. It always bugs me when I see pizza dismissed as unhealthy junk food, when a slice of pizza with a salad can offer a lot of taste and nutrition for a reasonable number of calories. I just wish I got to eat pizza more often, since my sweetie is around it all the time, it's the last thing he wants to eat at home!

I go online to check out the nutritional value of the pizza I plan to order so that I can work a few slices into my plan. I order from chain stores such as Papa Johns or Dominoes because they have thin crust as an option and they always have the same amounts of toppings so that the nutritional data should be more accurate than an independent pizza shop.

I also like to make pizza out of the flat out wrap , load it with veggies and sauce and either turkey pepperoni or another meat , just make sure you heat the bread before putting on the toppings or the bread is a little gooey. but way tasty for low calories.

We make pizza at home I love turkey pepperoni as a treat. It has nice flavour but a lot less fat compared to normal pepperoni.
