Followed this recipe from Food.com exactly. Did not make any substitutions and it turned out very nice....tender and rich tasting. Good base to tweek to make healthier!
To cut out 44 calories & 4.5g fat per serving, try substituting all the oil for 1 rounded 1/4 cup applesauce plus only 1 tbsp oil. To cut another 35 calories, substitute splenda for the granulated sugar (keep brown sugar).
This would bring the total cal/serving to 202 and fat/serving to 7g.
I swapped out the white sugar for SPLENDA for diabetic recipe.
Figs are, in my opinion, an under appreciated fruit. I ADORE them and this is a low calorie, luxurious dessert that comes together in minutes and is fancy enough for a formal dinner party. Using aged, imported balsamic vinegar improves the final results even more!
And no, the black pepper is not a mistake.
This sauce is also good over fresh strawberries, grilled pineapple or peaches. Excellent with creme fraiche or low cal frozen yogurt.

My sister-in-law who is a diabetic makes this pie for herself and gave the recipe to me. I make it for her during the holidays so she can eat dessert too. I think it is very good and I'm not a diabetic.
