I have this several times a week! It's a great way to get in some fruits first thing, as I often forget later in the day. It satiates you for the morning. I actually use regular special k cereal, but I couldn't find it listed. Also, as soon as I see bananas that are starting to darken, I cut them in half and put them in the freezer. If you use a cookie sheet/pan then they don't get stuck together. I use frozen banana's as it makes the smoothie colder and frothier. Enjoy!

Here is a quick, simple delicious recipe that gives me my coffee of the day, and some nutrition to boot.

(Hint: If you really like this recipe, I suggest making ice cubes out of coffee and keeping them on hand in the freezer, it gives a stronger coffee flavor without adding calories)

I was inspired by a recipe on Pinterest to come up with my own variation of a mocha smoothie. The recipe that inspired me called for Starbucks Instant Iced Coffee, but I discovered that it is 50 calories per serving and also about twice the price of a jar of instant espresso. For a mere $3.99 I picked up a jar of Medaglia D'Oro Instant Espresso Coffee. This smoothie is just under 150 calories, and almost 10 g of protein.

This is the typical smoothie I have in the morning. Sometimes I will add an avocado, change the type of fruit juice, switch out yogurt for soymilk, or just change the frozen fruit mix, but this is simple enough to whip up when I need a burst of energy from fresh fruit ASAP. But coupled with a slice of wg toast, this is nice and balanced meal, and just tastes so wonderfully good for you!
