Butter Millet Power Drink

I am going for the most creative category win on this one. You want ways to get more whole grains? They're great in blended beverages.

Heavenly Cacao Cinnamon Walnut Halves

This is a what-what?? food that I, as a physician, tell people to eat daily. After breakfast is a great time. Why on earth, you say? Simple. Nuts are super-foods, so is cacao, cinnamon has health benefits on it's own, and there's a sweetness to this that makes you feel good. All for fewer calories than one oreo cookie, nothing artificial, and micro-nutrients we are yet to discover. Studies show that people who eat a decadent snack after breakfast have better results with maintaining a healthy weight too. Go figure! 3 walnut halves equal one serving! You may find 1 is all you need (15 calories of yum). For a change, try it with almonds too.

Breakfast or Dessert Yogurt Fruit and Granola Parfaits

This recipe is great if you're in a hurry. Layer everything into a solo cup and eat it on the way to work! This falls into my "carbalicious" category, but it does contain at least some fiber, fat and protein. On the glycemic load scale, it's still pretty good compared to a rice cake. I also consider it comfort food -- sweet, crunchy, medium fat, fruity AND you get to eat it with a spoon.

Slow Cooker Oatmeal with Date

This is a wonderful make-ahead breakfast food.

Jump-Start Make-Ahead Breakfast Burrito

Prepared with the ingredients stated, you get a total of 28.7 grams of carb, and 14.4 grams of fiber! And did I mention it's delicious? Prepare ahead and wrap in appropriate foil (toaster oven) or wax paper (microwave), based on how you want to reheat. Store these in a freezer bag. Get one out before you hit the shower, and when you get out, just pop it in the microwave or toaster oven. Quick, easy, and packed with 18.5 grams of protein. Add a dash of hot sauce to get those eyes wide open, and skip the caffeine.
