Considered Egyptian "fast food", this is a fantastic recipe! Not like American fast food! It's different, for certain, but very filling and completely "clean" if you can get fresh tomato sauce!
This can be a vegetarian dish because traditional Koshari has NO CHICKEN in it. I added it in this recipe (and listed as optional) because I wanted added protein (and my husband refuses to eat a dish without meat!).
The "optional" ingredients truly are optional, however, they are included in the nutritional value.
The leftover lentils/macaroni/rice make for an amazing breakfast the next day with some egg whites!
These are unbelievably easy and unbelievably fantastic! Chewy, gooey and not bad at all!
These are absolutely fantastic and an easy way to do lasagna without the fuss of baking an hour! And, they look so elegant! While 2 is a serving, 1 was plenty!!! And, for 2 of them, at almost 400 calories, that is not bad for a dinner!
Add yourself a salad with a lite vinegarette dressing and it's absolutely superb!
And, as always, there are many variations and I've included my own below.
Seriously low in fat, calories, sodium - but extremely rich in Protein. Excellent with a side salad and of course, there are sooo many variations you can do with this! I have added Turkey Ham (low in fat too!) and have done without Breadcrumbs. See below for other variations/options.
This could be made "lighter" with ground turkey and fat-free cheese(s). I used fresh herbs from my garden, but dried can replace the fresh herbs. These make hearty servings and are great served with a salad - very filling! Yes, the fat is "high", but it comes from the cheese and meat and for a dinner, this is NOT bad - and loads you up on PROTEIN!
I like to make ahead of time, stick in freezer or fridge and can be cooked later.
Makes 12 hearty servings (can be more - as it is for our family...which changes the calorie content)
This is absolutely delicious and light. Great with a mexican dish, or with a fish dish :) I made this with my Mexican Lasagna/Casserole recipe.
This was just one of those things I whipped up - and while not necessarily the most "healthy" it was filling, delicious and a little went a looooong way! Of course, can be made healthier with ground turkey and/or chicken! Cheese could be fat free - but I used what I had on hand and it was delish.
The tortilla's didn't give me an option, but they were 6 x 6" tortillas at only 100 calories a pop.
This is a great summer dinner! The kids loves it - so a great way to get them to eat their veggies :)
I made this as a 'mistake' when I ran out of Alfredo sauce and had to get another 'cream base' together. I don't like using canned soups unless low in sodium, so this was a perfect alternative. My husband doesn't like tuna, but this recipe proved to be a favorite of his as everything else in it helps mask the taste.
This frozen yogurt treat is loaded with protein for a healthier alternative
