This is a great nutritious breakfast, easy to prepare and available all year round. Recipe calls for blueberries, but raspberries, blackberries, or strawberries could be substituted with minor shift in calories.
I first made this recipe to dehydrate for our backpacking trip. In that instance, I made sure the ground beef was very lean and crumbled into small bits, I mashed the black beans before adding them and minced the celery so it would dehydrate well and rehydrate successfully in camp.
It is vital to make these rolls in the steps indicated. If, for instance, you mix the sugar into the rhubarb before you need it, it will make syrup instead of staying relatively dry for the filling. Goes very well with whipped cream or ice cream.
This is a terrific fruit tart using fresh blueberries -- but could use other fresh fruit.
This is the type of dessert that begs for improvisation so, by all means, use your favorite seasonal fruits or dried fruits that have been plumped with water, juice, or spirits.
This is my own simple take on a favorite, twice-baked cookie. I give them to friends for Christmas, and they seem to be pretty welcome. They are not, however, low calorie by any means, so should be consumed with constraint.
