Hearty split pea soup that is so easy to make. This is also one of the cheapest meals you can make, you can eat for practically pennies. This is vegetarian, and vegan, but even meat eaters will like it (my husband would say so). Only 78 calories!! If you are watching your sodium, choose Low Sodium Bouillon cubes. I buy my yellow split peas in bulk from whole/natural food stores. Wonderful autumn and winter soup.
Eat in moderation - this yummy pumpkin bread has 135 calories per serving. Reduce or remove chocolate chips for lower calorie.

This is definitely one of the craziest recipes I have ever tried. Somehow, I got it into my head to make a cake with fresh beets in it. I researched a few recipes, I found one here on Spark Recipes but the quantities seemed wrong, so this is my version. I wanted to make a red velvet cake and the color of the batter after you mix in the beets is indescribably gorgeous. Unfortunately, upon baking the cake, the color fades to a golden color and loses most of it's red. (I add a picture of the bright red batter so you can see how it looks before it bakes). I used a bunch of red food coloring because I really wanted the look of a red velvet cake. Food coloring is optional, of course.
My husband says it is the best cake he has ever tasted. It is rich and moist and dense and you can't taste the beets at all, although they give the cake a distinctive taste. I didn't tell him until after he ate half of it that it had beets in it. He doesn't like beets, but he begs me to make this cake.
The best recipes I found on here were either too many calories or too many substitutions. This recipe is a balance between the two. Everything in moderation.

Where I live, I can find wild blackberries in summertime. I pick lots, and this is just one way I came up with to eat them. I loved this puree over angel food cake for a low calorie dessert.
Low calorie and delicious. I have become hooked on Angel Food Cake to satisfy my sweet tooth. This is a simple recipe adapted from AllRecipes that I make in a loaf pan since I don't have an angel food cake ring. I add semi-sweet chocolate chips for extra yummy-ness.
Such a divine combination. So many substitutes like add chopped almonds, pomegranate, feta cheese, onions, green olives or crushed pecans or what you like.

I changed the ingredients and preparation for this SP recipe. I think it is easier to prepare and tastes much better. Most people complained the original recipe is too watery. This one comes out a very nice thick chili.
Note: This recipe is NOT Low Sodium because if you are using canned beans, it has a lot of sodium in it. Be sure to drain all of the liquid from the canned beans and even rinse them. This does not lower the sodium by that much, but it helps. If you really want low sodium, buy dry beans and soak them in preparation for this recipe. Substitute approx 5 cups dry beans.

I make this bread using my bread machine to knead the dough only. I remove it from the machine and bake it in a bread pan in the oven.
Using a few better ingredients, like whole wheat flour, applesauce instead of oil, and smart balance instead of butter, this bread ends up being better for you! It's really similar to other low calorie banana bread recipes, I just tweaked the ingredients a bit.
