In the slow cooker or on the stove, easy, fast & healthy. I use my own concoction of Taco Seasoning or the low sodium packets if I am feeling uber lazy about mixing my own.. This is one meal that never leaves me feeling deprived.
Serve with a sprinkle of shredded cheese or some crunchy tortilla chips. A real husband pleaser.
I love strawberry & DH loves peach, so I always make a half & half version of this cobbler. Other than store bought it just doesn't get easier than this. Be sure to melt the margarine in the oven as you preheat, it really makes the difference!
LIghtened from the original lable recipe with egg beaters, splenda & light/fat free versions of the ingredients. STILL it's high calorie.. wow. DH's favorite tho & he insists it's a Thanksgiving must have.. so I tried to lighten it. Next time I will make my own graham cracker crust & try to lighten that up as well..
As made on the label.. DH's favorite. Only substitution is Splenda instead of sugar & margarine instead of butter. Makes 7 Servings. The pie plate makes 5, and an extra 2 servings in a small, separate pie dish. A single 9" deep dish would have worked, if I had one!
Comfort food in the slow cooker, tho it could be baked as well.. I keep the meal light with brown rice, fresh vegetables & a side salad.
Though it's not as good as a bread that's been soaked in a milk, egg & spice mixture this definitely takes care of my craving for french toast. Low carb, low fat & low cal & "Seriously Simple" - not to mention FAST!
Serve alone, or in a hollowed bread bowl. Also nice over rice or pasta. My husband is a diabetic which is why I include the carb counts for a variation of servings.. easier for me.. maybe you too.
In a homemade BBQ Sauce.. Also great on the grill!
Mother's recipe! When I'm missing my fries I turn to this recipe to help satisfy my craving. To save on calories, I've omitted the 1 tbsp of olive oil suggested. The same recipe using Mrs. Dash instead of the listed spices works great too!
This is a very simple, tasty dish. Tho I don't have mushrooms in this version as my DH won't eat them, they are a fantastic addition! Serving it in the half shell gives a nice presentation.
It can easily be make lower cal by omitting the margarine and using a low fat cheese - or less of it! This is the version perferred by my DH.. so, here it is! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
I tweaked this from a diabetic cook book I have and it's great, other than it being a total sodium bomb! Use low or no sodium broth and tomatoes with chilis if you can to lower the number. I didn't have either on hand and so the nutrients values are based on what I actually used rather than what I would have preferred to have used. There is a lot of sauce so it's great served over a whole grain pasta or brown rice with a big green salad on the side!
Pork chops in a light tomato sauce with lima beans. I found this recipe in a diabetic cook book and tweaked down to make a nice recipe for two.
Serve with brown rice or whole grain pasta.
I use "no salt, salt", and an 18g Whole Wheat Flour (Hungarian Stone Ground Style, High Altitude) and of course.. Splenda.. to cut the carbs in this bread. I admit, it's not as great as regular banana bread but it's a good substitute when trying to cut the carbs wherever you can,...
A delicious alternative to store bought english muffins. A tip from my mother was to bake in small coffee cans to satisfy that "rounded" look my husband prefers. I haven't tried it yet, but only a few more cups of coffee to go before I do .. ;-)
