Instead of boullion I used 1 - 2 tsp. of BETTER THAN BOULLION HAM soup base. Can add more to taste. Less salt. Adds a depth of smoky flavor. Once the split peas are softened I added carrots, celery, any other veggie I had handy. Filling and nutritious.
