1. In a 6-quart Dutch oven, cook bacon until crisp; remove from pot and transfer to paper towels. Crumble and set aside.
2. In the same pot, cook steak, onion, and garlic in bacon drippings until browned. Add potatoes, tomatoes, water, chile peppers, chili powder, cumin, and oregano; season with pepper to taste. Cook over low heat 1 hour or until potatoes are tender. Serve topped with crumbled bacon.
Serves 8.
