Vegetarian Split Pea and Barley Soup

Ingredients
Split peas, thyme, barley, carrots, celery, garlic, onion
Directions
Cook peas with water (6 cups) and seasonings and onion for 1.5 hours. Cook barley separately for 1.5 hours with remaining water and chicken stock flavoring. Drain remaining water from barley and add to split peas. Add carrots and celery to mixture and cook an additional half hour or until vegetables are tender. Turn off heat and allow soup to sit.
