Ingredients
Yellow Split Peas (1 16 oz package dry peas)1.5 tsp salt1 tsp turmeric8 cups water (add more or less, depending on thickness desired)8 cloves garlic, chopped (more or less, as desired)1 habanero or other hot pepper, chopped1 Tbs cumin seed4 Tbs olive oil
Directions
*Rinse peas, cover with ~1/2" of water & boil.
*Drain water/strain peas & return to pot, add the rest of the water.
*Add salt & turmeric
*cook for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until texture is smooth. add water as needed.
*Heat oil in frying pan. Fry garlic, hot pepper, and cumin until mixture is dark brown, almost black.
*add garlic mixture to split peas
*cook ~1/2 hour more.

Serve with rice or naan as a main course, or with curry as a side.
