turnip gratin

Ingredients
Directions
1 large turnip sliced thinly (mandoline) about 3 cups/1 lb1 C cream (I used light instead of heavy)2 cloves garlicfew sprigs of thymepinch cayenne pepper3/4 C grated cheese, I used parmrecipe also calls for 1/4 stick butter which I didn't use!
add cream, smashed garlic, thyme, and cayenne to saucepan
season with a little salt
bring to a boil, turn off heat and let steep for ~20 min
thinly slice/mandoline turnip and lay half in a small greased casserole pan
sprinkle half of cheese over the turnip, then pour half of cream mix (I left garlic and thyme in..recipe says take out)
build a second layer and finish off ingredients
cover with foil and bake for about 20' min at 375 (longer if refrigerated first!). Uncover and bake another 10 min to brown. give or take....see how it looks to decide when done
