3 small ham hocks1 medium onion1 medium rutebaga1 head of cabbage3 carrots3 celerysalt and pepperwater
place ham hocks in a hot dry pot. Sear them gently, and add water to 3/4 pot full. Cut into smaller chunks everything but cabbage, salt and pepper. Add to pot and simmer for 2 hours. Remove ham hocks and pick off meat, shred and return to pot, but discard bone and fat. Add Cabbage that has been cut into smaller chunks as well, and simmer for one more hour. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve. Serving size is about 1 1/2 to 2 cups!
