Ingredients
Juice from 1/2 a lemon1-19oz can of chickpeas (540mL)2 tbsp tahini1 tbsp curry powder1 tbsp chili powder1 tsp oregano1/4 cup water (optional)
Directions
In a bowl, mash chickpeas with the lemon juice. Blend in tahini. Add spices. Stir mixture until all ingredients are evenly mixed. If you want the hummus to be creamier, mix in the water.
Note: This recipe becomes incredibly easy if you have a food processor. Just add all ingredients and blend until smooth. This would also give you the option of using whole garlic cloves and fresh herbs.

This is a VERY LOW CALORIE hummus, as it contains no olive oil. The serving size here is HUGE, much larger than the standard 2 tbs serving size of store bought brands (for those complaining that 220 calories is a lot). - 3/29/08

Loved it! I was getting tired of the same old hummus. I added some cumin and some garlic. great in a wrap with fresh spinach :) Even my 3 year old liked it (first time I have ever gotten him to try hummus!) - 3/30/08

this is good, but I had to add more tahini to make it taste closer to the kind I get at my favorite middle eastern restaurant. - 4/10/08

Gwenione, this IS healthy, especially if you make it with no-salt-added chickpeas. Sodium is my enemy! It is yummy and healthy. We eat it on whole wheat matzo. The kids can't get enough! - 3/29/08

excellent! I added some garlic and needed a little more water to get the texture I was after. Next time I'll use a little less tahini... my cans of chick peas are only 15 oz, and I think extra 4 oz would have helped handle the tahini. I love that this recipe uses no oil. - 6/5/10

Delicious! Also great made with canelli beans instead of garbanzos, it makes a much smoother hummus. - 3/29/08

This recipe would be even EASIER if you have a Magic Bullet! I love my Bullet for stuff like this! - 3/29/08

Please note the serving size for this versus the store-bought serving size; this one is much larger so the calories are higher. Tribe store-bought is only 2tbsp for a serving... - 3/29/08

Instead of curry and chili powder, I used a jar of roasted red peppers-yum!! Or you can use black olives - 3/29/08

I made the hummus and it was way too thick. Had to add more water and lemon juice and put in 1 Tbsp olive oil. Not the best recipe I've made-- sorry. - 2/20/10

I love hummus! I'm hooked on a hummus and veggie sandwich. Fill your pita or layer your whole grain bread with hummus, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion and some spouts for a delicious lunch! - 5/3/09

Ususally 2 tb of hummus is about 50 cal, so I'm guessing this is about 2-3 oz each serving? - 3/29/08
