Turnip - Raisin Spice Cake

2 ½ cups whole wheat flour¼ tsp salt2 tsp cinnamon1 tsp nutmeg¼ tsp cloves½ cup margarine1 cup packed brown sugar2 tsp baking soda1 cup buttermilk1 cup mashed turnip, cold1 cup raisins
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9” pan.
Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
Cream margarine and sugar.
Combine baking soda with buttermilk, and add to the creamed mixture. Blend well.
Mix in the turnip and raisins.
Add flour mixture to the turnip mixture and blend very well.
Scrape into pan and bake 40 minutes.
Cool completely in pan before turning out and sifting icing sugar over cake to serve.
