Kielbasa Smothered in Cabbage (adapted from All Recipes)

Ingredients
1 small head cabbage, shredded1 apple, cored and diced3 teaspoons salt, divided1 tablespoon lemon juice1/2 cup water1 tablespoon olive oil1 small onion, chopped1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper1 tablespoon wine vinegar1 pound kielbasa sausage, cut into 1 inch pieces
Directions
Saute the onion and the diced apple in the olive oil. When the onion is done add the sausage, water, salt, lemon juice, pepper, and vinegar. Heat to boiling then add the cabbage. Cook, covered, 20 to 30 minutes. To serve, spoon the cabbage onto a heated platter, topping it with the sausage.
