Hearty Beef Macaroni

2/3 cup uncooked whole wheat macaroni2/3 pound Ground sirloin1/3 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced2/3 cup chopped onion1 clove garlic, pressed4 oz no salt added tomato paste (I use organic tomato paste in mine)1/2 cup water2/3 cup ketchup1 small bay leaf 2/3 tsp ground black pepper1/8 tsp dried oregano1/8 tsp dried basil
Cook pasta according to package directions (omit salt when cooking); drain and set aside. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef with mushrooms, onion and garlic. Blot excess grease. Add tomato paste, water, ketchup, bay leaf, sugar and spices. Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. Stir in cooked drained macaroni. Bring to a low boil to warm through. Remove bay leaf and serve.
