Taste greaCould you clarify how you got nutritional informaion. I used a whole box of cake mix (not sure how you couldnt). Cake mix for whole box= 2160, pumpkin - 120, chocolate chips = 80 caleries per tsp. If you take my calculations you would end up with 215 per serving. Could you clarify? - 8/26/08

They are AMAZING!!! I left out the chocolate chips, and used and low sugar devil's food mix with a little water. So low calorie, so moist and delicious, 1 gram of fat for mine when I calculated!!! My whole house smells like rich chocolate & my fiance is passing on ice cream & eating muffins, THANKS! - 2/10/09

These are amazing! During Halloween I make them with a white cake mix so they turn orange for a "spooky treat"! - 1/26/10

i made this recipe tonight. I recalculated the calories. I used Pillsbury reduced sugar devils food mix, the same amount of pumpkin, half the amount of chips, and about 1/2 a cup of water. The calories turned out to be 128 calories each-- I made 21 muffins with the mix. - 10/7/09

I made them with an off brand devels food with fewer calories and no chocolate chips. I also added 1/3 cup water to thin out the batter. 87 calories/ serving if you make 24! - 1/29/09

i made these before without chocolate chips and they were so good! make sure you use a small can of pumpkin or they won't cook correctly.. sadly i made that miskake the first time i tried. it also works better if you use a cake mix that does not have pudding in the mix. - 1/23/09

Do you prepare the cake mix as directed on the back of the box? Or do you just add the pumpkin? - 8/6/09

These are wonderful. I made them using canned pumpkin and the reduced sugar cake mix. Nothing else but a little water. Perfect! 12 servings = 161 calories each. - 10/27/09

When you need a chocolate fix, these will definitely do the trick. My boyfriend and co-workers loved them. The batter was so thick and very hard to mix so I did add about 1/3 cup of water. I am also absentminded and left them in the oven way longer than I was supposed to & they were fine. Foolproof! - 2/12/09

Big hit at workI I made them in mini-muffin pan so I got twice as much. Everyone thought 50 calories for these chocolate treats was amazing! - 12/31/10

CALORIE DISCREPENCY ANSWERED (I believe): You cannot calculate the whole cake box into your calories considering that you are not using the eggs and oil. Subtract the calories for those things from the box total and add the pumpkin instead. Voila! - 4/11/10

Soo delicious. I used 3/4 cup choc chips, and added 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup soy milk, and it made 24 muffins at 127calories each. - 3/18/10

If you want some frosting to go with them mix dry white chocolate, cream cheese or any other flavor of pudding mix with whipped topping! It is a weight watchers recipe. - 1/23/09

I make these all the time for my 15 year old son--we all love them and are very easy to make. I add a little water to help mix them up... - 1/23/09

Wished I would have read the ratings for this recipe first. I made these thinking they were low cal and was eating 3 or 4 at a time because they were so AWESOME!! Depending on the brands you use cal count my be a little off. I can up with 207 cal each. Wish they were the 95 as stated : ( - 1/21/13

This was delicious. You can also buy the sugar free devil cake mix.
I sprinkled some sugar on top of the muffins before baking. This was very moist and delicious. My husband ate three in one sitting. :) - 1/7/13

I made this recipe this morning omitting the chocolate chips to reduce calories. I was skeptical with the pumpkin, but they turned out delicious! I also added 1/3 cup of water to thin out the batter. It made 21 muffins. Thanks for the recipe. I am excited to experiment with different cake mixes. - 1/22/12

I thought they were great, almost too hard to eat just one at a time though. Very moist!!! - 1/19/12

These had a great taste but they werent muffins at all, they looked liked hocky pucks and were really gooey inside. I even tried making them twice with a friend and we couldnt get them to turn out at all. What could I have done wrong. Are you suppose to use the whole box of cake mix or only one serv - 9/21/11

I made this, but did not get under 100 kcals. It was absolutely delicious, anyway!
    Moist Deluxe Devil's Food (Duncan Hines): 180(mix alone)*12= 2160
    Kroger Pumpkin (15oz): 50(half-cup) *3(entire container)= 150
    (2160+150)/18 = (roughly) 130kcals/muffin - 1/20/11

Amazing! I add a 1/2 cup of skim milk and the kids gobble them up, with or without the choc chips. They are my favorite way to cure a choc craving! - 10/25/10
