Oatmeal Cookies (Quaker)

Ingredients
1 cup packed brown sugar3/4 cup shortening1/2 cup sugar1 egg1/4 cup water3 cups oats (quick or old-fashioned)1 cup flour1/2 tsp baking soda1 tsp salt
Directions
1. Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, beat brown sugar, shortening and granulated sugar until creamy. Add egg, water and vanilla; beat well. Add combined oats, flour, salt and baking soda; mix well.
2. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake 11 to 13 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Remove to wire rack. Cool completely. Store tightly covered.

    This is the original Quaker Oatmeal Cookie recipe and it's the one my family loves best. I always take them out when they don't look quite done and let them rest on the cookie sheet for a couple of minutes. They are soft and delicious!! - 7/2/11
