1 tbsp butter1 tsp vegetable oil1 large bay leaf1 small onion, chopped1 large carrot, chopped1 celery stalk, chopped2 garlic cloves, finely chopped2cm/¾in piece ginger, peeled and cut into thin strips1 tbsp cornflour, mixed to a paste with a splash of water650g/1lb 7oz ripe tomatoes, choppedsalt, to taste¾-1 tsp freshly ground black pepper100ml/3½fl oz milk300-400ml water120g red split lentils

cook lentils separately
prepare soup according to instructions
Add cooked lentils after the milk and water. blend.
