Beef and Barley Burgers

Ingredients
2 TBSP Olive Oil, Divided2 cloves Garlic1/2 C. Pearl Barley1 C (plus 2 TBSP) Water3/4 lb Lean Ground Beef1 TBSP Prepared Steak Sauce1 TSP Worcestershire Sauce1 TSP salt1/2 TSP Ground Black Pepper1 Egg, beaten1 Avacado, seeded and scooped out2 TBSP Fresh Lemon Juice1 TSP Coarse Garlic Salt1/4 TSP Asian Chili Sauce6 Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns, toasted6 Lettuce Leaves6 Slices of Tomato
Directions
In 1-qt saucepan, heat 1 TBSP olive oil over medium-high heat. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in barley; brown for 2 minutes, stirring. Add 1 cup of water and bring to boil. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook 35 minutes. Cool. In large mixing bowl combine cold barley, ground beef, steak sauce, worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Mix to combine. Add egg and mix until mixture is blended. Form into 6 patties. In large skillet heat remaining 1 TBSP olive oil over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook for 4 minutes per side. In the meantime, combine avacado, garlic salt and chili sauce in bowl. Coarsely mash and set aside. To assemble hamburgers, spread base of each bun with avacado mixture. Top with lettuce leaf, tomato slice, burger and another spoonful of avacado mixture. Place on top of bun and serve.
