2 .25oz Package of Active Dry Yeast2C Warm Water.5t of Honey.25C Olive Oil1T Salt5C Whole Wheat Flour
Dissolve yeast in 1/2c of warm water, add honey and let sit for 5 minutes. Add 1/4c olive oil, salt and the remaining 1.5c of warm water and mix well. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead for 6-8 minutes on a floured surface to keep from sticking. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and place in a warm spot for 30 minutes to allow to rise. Break into smaller balls, and allow to set for 5-10 minutes. Then roll into the desired size pita. Bake at 475 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Cool on wire racks, and then enjoy!! YIELDS APPROX 20-25 DEPENDING ON SIZE

These were very easy and delicious. However the 8 minutes was too long of a cooking time. My first batch came out crunchy, but its ok I'll just use them for pita chips ;-) I cooked my second batch for 5-6 mins and they came out perfectly soft and chewy (I was able to get 24 from this recipe). This recipe needs to be broken down to how many servings that it actually makes. I know one pita can not possibly be 2533 calories. Also it needs to be stated approximately how many pitas this makes. But otherwise I plan on making this recipe. - 3/1/09

Wow, I didn't see the nutrition workup. No they definitely don't have that many calories. The yield depends on how large you make them, but I get about 20 to 25 per batch. Thanks for the heads up!

hmm good pitas, I made the dough in my bread machine then rolled out the rounds. I think next time I'll add a little more salt or something, they're soft and chewy and most of them made pockets, but they're not as flavourful as I'd like. I cooked for 6 minutes as suggested by Futuremrsmc - 4/27/09
